Interested in contributing your skills and experience? We need volunteers! Subscribe to our weekly Hāmākua Harvest Newsletter for upcoming volunteer opportunities. See below for specific volunteer opportunities in our different programs.
There are several ways to get involved with Hāmākua Harvest:
Farmers’ Market: Our market needs volunteers to help with set-up in the morning, break-down at close, and assist with merchandise and SNAP/EBT sales at the Welcome Booth throughout the market day.
Also reach out to get involved:
- Become a Vendor – Visit our Vendor Information and Policies page to get set up.
- Educational Presenters – Enrich the community with high-quality learning experiences!
- Musicians and Entertainers – always wanted for the weekly farmers’ market.
- Special Events – volunteers of all kinds (advertising, tech, photography, parking, etc.) are welcome too, let us know your skills or interests!
Please contact the Market Manager, kiilani@hamakuaharvest.org about becoming a market volunteer.
Demonstration Orchard: If hands on the land with like-minded folks is your idea of fun, consider volunteering at our Demonstration Orchard! This 5-acre food forest needs volunteers to help prune, fertilize, plant harvest, and weed so we can continue to grow food for our community! This project has been currently maintained by our close partner, Hōʻā (formerly known as the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hāmākua).
Huli Ka Lima i Lalo: Hōʻā is partnering with Hāmākua Harvest to cultivate community food security through growing, propagating, harvesting, and sharing traditional Hawaiian food crops and agricultural practices! Please contact Hōʻā’s Director, Lanakila at info.hoa.hawaii@gmail.com and visit their Facebook to discover opportunities to turn your hands to the earth.
Board of Directors: Our Board of Directors is seeking professional expertise from volunteer board members or advisors. We are particularly looking for individuals with board experience and/or professional skills in nonprofit management, finance/accounting, fundraising, or policy/compliance. However, the most important qualification is deep investment in our Hāmākua communities! Please contact the Board of Directors, hamakuaharvestboard@gmail.com if you are interested in joining the board or supporting with administrative tasks.
Donating time or Materials: In-kind contributions are tax-deductible and a receipt documenting your contribution of volunteer hours or materials will be provided upon request. In particular, we are looking for:
-
- Earth & machine works
- Fencing, building
- Seeds, plants, potting soil, nutrients, mulch and pots.
